I played very little, but I did finish a few games. I tried a special game with a tiny map and 18 civilizations. That way, each civilization mostly has room for one city and that’s about it. I went for culture at first but then steamrolled through the other civs one my borders reached their towns. I finished the game with 3 vasals under my control, which never happened in any of my previous games.
I’ve also been watching some gameplay videos of Civilization V, and I have to say, I can’t wait until it gets released. This should be happening in a little over a month. It basically keeps all the great stuff about this one, and greatly improves on all of the flaws.

This is a very strange, but interesting game. Basically, it’s a survival game. The world is generated randomly and you start at a random location in it. During the day, everything is great, but at night the monsters come. This is way you need to find some coal fast to make torches and build yourself a shelter. After you survive the first night, the game basically turns into a series of exploration, mining and building parts. On my first two tries it didn’t really go that well because I couldn’t find the coal fast enough and I didn’t know how monsters behave yet. On my third try, it really went great and I’ve been playing that world ever since. I explored a bunch of caves and built a very nice home for myself.
I’ve also built something like a lighthouse on top of the cliff my home is located at. That way, I can find my way to my house easier if I get lost. During my exploration, I also managed to find  a diamond vein, but I already depleted everything I mined from that. I do have a nice supply of gold, coal and iron so I won’t run out of those any time soon.
Most of my house is built out of glass and stone, and right now I’m trying to decorate the surroundings. My top floor is on top of a glass structure and has waterfalls coming out of all sides, so it looks really nice. I might post some screenshots later.

In any case, this is an extremely open ended game with no fixed goals so it cannot be completed. I do however plan to have lots of fun with it. Definitely worth the 10€ I paid for it.

I had a Starcraft II marathon yesterday. After doing some WoW stuff I started playing and didn’t stop until the game was finished around midnight. It took me a while, but it was completely worth it. The story and the presentation is amazing, and even through the campaign, I can tell that there could be some awesome skirmishes later on.

Sadly, since it’s a pirated version, I can’t get any achievements or play proper multiplayer. It’s probably better that way. I can save those for when I buy the real thing. Sadly, since college is getting closer and I will be extremely busy, that probably won’t happen before next year. Still, I can’t wait.

I keep coming back to this game. Off course, there is no campaign or anything similar so I won’t be completing it, but I do plan to go through a session every now and then. I installed it a few days ago, so I played a few games already, but nothing major. I would like to try and win some games on higher difficulties.

I didn’t buy it yet, but after clearing the first five campaign missions, I decided I will eventually. I’m completely broke right now, though, so it will have to wait a while. In any case, the game is awesome. The story is interesting, and the campaign is even more interesting. You can choose between multiple missions and earn credits after completing them. The credits can then be used to buy upgrades for your units or hire mercenaries. Also, some missions contain sub-objectives which grant you Zerg or Protoss research points which you can then use for unique upgrades or units for your team. Right now I have five Zerg points and I could choose between one of two unique upgrades. One increases the Bunker hit points and another adds an automatic turret on top of the bunker. I opted for the turret because, for now, my bunkers didn’t have health problems. After completing mission five and spending some credits, I decided to take a break. I will continue further tomorrow.

Aside from Warcraft, I didn’t play much of anything else for the past few days. This is a game I stumbled into while reading some blogs. Basically, it’s a watered down roguelike. You only get one level, filled with monsters, spells, gold, shops and a boss, and the only way to regenerate health and mana is to explore blaked out areas of the single screen map. This turns it into something closer to a resource management puzzle game than a real roguelike.

I get mixed feelings about it. On one hand, you die allot and unwinnable levels are really commonly generated. On the other hand, I keep coming back to it for some reason. As of right now, I managed to clear the Normal quest with a Fighter, and a Warlord, and that’s about it. I have a plan on how to clear it with a mage, but it involves finding a special altar really early in the level.

This isn’t a game you really complete, but there are unlockables you can collect so I guess I can call it completed when I get all of them. Not sure if that’s going to happen though.

I acquired a bunch of indie games a few weeks ago, so, since I’ve completed some of them, and hated others, this one got its turn. I think I can objectively say it’s bad. They advertise it as a city builder game with a twist, but it’s nothing like it. You control your ODD Boy and do quests for various other members in the village. The quests include getting them an item, then building them a building in three stages, each stage requiring a gathering of various materials from nodes and monsters on the map, and then getting another item from them which you can then give to the next villager and start the process over. The graphics look nice and even the story is cute, but the game is just repetitive, slow and boring.

That being said, I’ve still completed it. I’m not sure why, but something just compelled me to do it. It didn’t take long, a couple of hours at most, but I still consider it a waste of time. There are also some achievements built into the game, of which I missed only two. I am not planning to go back to those.

This is basically a simplified Settlers game. Each level is a different map with different goals. You get slots on the map, but some of them are hidden until you build buildings close enough to reveal them. You have to build defensive, economic and population increasing structures in order to reach your goal. Depending on how fast you do this, you get a medal. I have managed to get a gold medal on every level as well as unlock all the achievements in the game in basically one go, so the game really isn’t that hard. Still, it was fun while it lasted.

I managed to complete this one on normal difficulty. I have also finished allot of the various mini games and unlocked all three of the Zen gardens, as well as the three of Wisdom or whatever it’s called.  I have managed to reach the night time pool level on the second difficulty. As far as I can tell, the difference in difficulty is that I get a few more zombies and Crazy Dave is picking three plants for me on every level. I find that if I adjust to what he picks for me, I can do pretty well.

Not sure how far exactly I got with this one, but I think I’m about half way to the end. As far as I can tell, I have completely upgraded my mansion, so money is really no longer an issue. I’ve also been gathering various bonus items, but I feel there are far too many and I’m not motivated enough to collect them all. If I can remember correctly, I have allied with the thieves in Venice and killed one of the local leaders. It has been a while, so I cannot really remember if I got further than that.
