Supreme Commander (PC)

I’ve been playing this mostly today. I only did a few missions in the first campaign, but it took about four hours of my time. I noticed that it’s to just build a small army and use it to protect my engineer group that in turn builds turrets and pushes forward that way, then to only use the troops for offense.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (DS)

I’ve also played this game for a while again. My main character finally became a ninja, and I have advanced the story further, meeting Vahn and Penelo on the way. I’ve also unlocked the Chocobo Knight class.

I played this for a while today. I solved a few quests including one I couldn’t before because I didn’t have a Green Mage. My character is now level 38. He’s leveling slower because I’ve been mostly solving Clan Trials which don’t give much experience. He is one skill closer to becoming a Ninja tough. I haven’t played much because I didn’t have the time, but I will be playing more tomorrow.

I had a few friends over today actually yesterday, since it’s after midnight), so I haven’t played much today. After the morning session of FFTA2, I played some Elite Beat Agents while waiting for my friends to arrive. I started a new game, and finished the first 8 missions. I guess the Japanese sequel is harder, because after playing the sequel, the first one is much easier for me. I remember struggling on some missions the last time, but this time, I finished all of them on the first try. Anyway, I’m going to sleep now.

I had to go to bed early yesterday, so I woke up early again. I’ve been playing FFTA2, and have done a few of the clan trials. My clan abilities are now maxed out, and I got a few nice clan privileges. The one I will be using the most is probably the “Bonus AP”, since it makes learning skills a whole lot easier. I also got “Regenga” which heals my units every turn for a fair amount of HP. I’m going to take a break now, and will continue later.

I woke up early this morning for some reason, so I’ve been playing Mario some more. I managed to clear World 7 and find all the hidden passages in World 8. All I need to do now is get all the star coins from World 8. Easier said than done.

EDIT: Notice the subtle change in the completed games list. That’s right, boys and girls, World 8 is now cleared of star coins, and New Super Mario Brothers is 100% complete. Now, how should I celebrate this? I know! I’ll play another game!

EDIT2: I solved a few more Final Fantasy quests. The story didn’t advance, but I completed a side quest group. My main character is 2 skills away from becoming a ninja, which he will continue to be, until the Parivir job is available. I don’t really know what to do with my Moogle. He learned all the Thief and Juggler skills, so he doesn’t really have anything to do right now. I will keep him as a Juggler tough, because I think the class has superior stat growth compared to the Thief.

Another few hours invested. I advanced the story, and solved a few side quests. I think it’s about time to start planning my endgame party, so I trained a Viera Archer/Sniper, and a Nu’Mou Sage. My main character is currently a Paladin/Fighter, but right now he’s training as a Thief to unlock the Ninja job (so I can improve his speed and learn a few useful skills). My Summoner started learning red magic to supplement her summons. My Banga will probably be a Defender/Gladiator with a few levels in Trickster for speed. My Moogle is a classic Thief/Juggler, so he isn’t very useful in battle, but I use him for loot stealing. I’m also training a Moogle Fusilier just in case.

EDIT: I’ve collected all the star coins from the third and the fourth world of New Super Mario Brothers. I’ve also found all of the secret passages on the map (including all the cannons). I haven’t played Final Fantasy…

EDIT2: Just cleared the fifth world of New Super Mario Brothers…

EDIT3: World 6 cleared!

So after another long break, the summer has finally begun. I got a bunch of games I missed trough last year, and I’m currently catching up on TV shows I missed. I recently finished New Super Mario Brothers for the second time. Right now I’m collecting all the gold coins I missed (the first two worlds are cleared). I’m also playing Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, currently about 25 hours in, and nowhere near the end. I’ll try to get some work over the summer, so I can pay for my tuitions (and maybe invest in some new entertainment gadgets), but mostly, I’ll be playing games. I will also try to turn my blog in to a daily routine.

EDIT: I invested a few more hours in FFTA2. It’s really a great game. I managed to become region champion in all regions of the starting continent, and I did a few item auctions already. I got a Genji Helm, and a few other nice items. My main character is now level 36, and I’m planning to train him as a ninja for a few levels, because he’s really slow right now. I also tried Civilization Revolution for the DS. I like it, but it could have been better. I really hate the constant animation stuttering. It’s pretty obvious that the DS wasn’t the primary platform.

I had a lot of work to do for the last month, and I still do. Plus, the European soccer championship started, so I spend what little free time I have watching the games. I did play some games also tough. I finally have my DS operational again, so I’m mostly playing all the DS games I planned. I finished Ninja Gaiden (I had to play from the beginning), and I recently also completed Summon Night Twin Age. It’s a hack & slash game similar in style to Diablo. It’s nowhere nearly as good as Diablo, but it isn’t bad either. I finished the main story in about 12 hours, and completed the Ex chapters in about 2 and a half hours. I also started playing Super Mario 64 DS. It’s a great remake, and the graphics are actually better then on the Nintendo 64. I got about 35 stars collected, and have also unlocked Mario (you start the game with Yoshi). I tried some miscellaneous other games, but none of them are good enough to mention. I have about two weeks of exams left, and after that I will be spending most of my time playing games that got released recently. I promise I’ll try to post more often…

So I finished chapter 8 of Ninja Gaiden today, and decided to take a break. After studying for my exam tomorrow, I loaded the game again and noticed the screen was right oriented (I’m a lefty, so this was a bit weird. I get to the main menu, and what do you know, MY GOD DAMN SAVE IS GONE. GONE!!! Chapter 10 was probably the last chapter and now MY SAVE IS GONE. I usually make backup saves, but I do this every few days, and since I got to chapter nine in less than a day, there is no backup to speak of. I can’t even begin to explain how angry I am right now. This game is going on hold until my nerves get settled (which will be at least a few days…

This game came out, and after watching the trailers, I just had to get it. I’ve been playing it for a bit, and I’m not disappointed. The controls are awesome, the game play is even better, and the story isn’t bad either. I got to Chapter 6, and have already collected three dark dragon stones. I upgraded my sword up to level three, bought two max health upgrades, and learned a total of three spells. I have jet to master the fighting system. The system is easy to get used to, but complex enough to require skill in mastering it (another thing I like about the game). The only thing I don’t love about it is the cartoony character style. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind cartoon characters in games, but I think they don’t fit so well with the theme. Another style of anime should have been chosen, IMHO.

A homebrew port of Tyrian from the PC is now also available for download. I loved this game on the PC, so I’m really enjoying it on the DS. It’s still in beta (version 0.2), so not everything works quite yet, and the game loves to crash every now and then, but that didn’t stop me from playing it. I finished 4 episodes already, and I’ll probably finish the game soon (Tyrian is about replay value anyway).

EDIT: I’ve played Ninja Gaiden a bit more tonight. I’m now at the beginning of chapter eight, and have already collected five dragon stones which means there are three left. I learned another spell, but I haven’t tried it out yet (all I’m using is my healing spell). IMHO, the game is a bit too easy on normal difficulty. I hope a hard difficulty will be unlocked after I complete the game.
